Terna: demand for electricity falls in October, thermoelectric production also down

The trend from January 2011, which at the end of September had set an overall increase of 1,7% compared to the first nine months of 2010, is reduced to 1,4% with the October figure, which only thanks to the adjustment of the data is close to 1,5%. Slight decline for hydroelectric, good confirmation for photovoltaic.

In October, the demand for electricity in Italy decreased by 1,3% compared to the same month of the previous year, a value which drops to 1,2% considering the necessary adjustments that take into account the average temperature and working days.

On the other hand, the month of September had given positive indications. After the fluctuating trend in electricity demand in the months of July and August, there was finally a marked increase, with growth of 6,1% compared to the same month in 2010. The seasonally adjusted figure also takes into account the temperatures average (the working days were twenty-two in both cases) had shown a clear increase, equal to 5%.

As regards generation, there was a sharp drop in thermoelectric production, which settled at just over 17 billion kWh (down 10 per cent compared to October 2010) against a sharp increase in the balance of trade with the abroad, which reached a record value of 2011 billion kWh in October 4,7. Lastly, a slight drop in hydroelectricity, stability in geothermal and wind power and confirmation of photovoltaics as the third primary source in the national basket, with 1,14 billion kWh, should be highlighted.
