The second edition of the photography competition which aims to promote culture in the country and support emerging talents has concluded. Five winners. The winning and finalist works will be on display at Palazzo Esposizioni Rome and can be visited for free until 15 October

Terna, the company responsible for the national electricity grid, has announced the winners of the second edition of the “Driving Energy Award – Contemporary Photography".

Il free competition, open to all photographers in Italy, aims to promote culture in the country and support emerging talents in the field of photography.

The winners of the award

In the second edition of the “Driving Energy Award – Contemporary Photography” with the theme “In Praise of Balance”, were five authors awarded, mainly women:

  • Senior Award a Dione Roach: for his audacity in interpreting the theme of the award, combining the narrative of the present, individual history and collective events.
  • Young Award a Martina Zanin: awarded for having addressed the theme of the award in a multifactorial way through an installation solution and the use of hybridization of codes and languages.
  • Amateur Award for Antonio Vacirca: for his work which analyzes balance as visual and meaningful harmony, starting from the urban landscape and using black and white.
  • Academy Mention a Beatrice Aiello: for its intimate interpretation of balance, focused on motherhood and the mother/daughter relationship.
  • Mention Most voted work by Terna a Lorenzo Pipi: special mention for having obtained the highest number of votes (one fifth of the total) from the Terna community, which viewed and voted for the finalist works on the TernaCult portal.

The five winning works yes they award prizes for a total of 29.000 euros. The works, together with the other 36 finalists were have been evaluated by the Curator, Marco Delogu, and by the Jury, chaired by Lorenza Bravetta, curator of the Photography, cinema and new media sector at La Triennale di Milano, supported by the Presidential Committee of the Award, composed of Igor De Biasio and Giuseppina Di Foggia, President respectively and CEO of Terna.

Furthermore, the Governance of the Award also saw at work this year the Honorary Committee made up of the five winners of the 2022 Award (Paolo Ventura, Gaia Renis, Mohamed Keita, Eva Frapiccini and Andrea Botto), which evaluated, with the Jury , the students' works to award the Academy Mention.

The exhibition begins at Palazzo Esposizioni in Rome

The winning and finalist works will be on display at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma and can be visited, with free access, until Sunday 15 October.

The 2023 Prize exhibition, in collaboration with Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, is presented in three different digital versions to broaden the possibilities of access and use of the works. These three releases include the Metaverse, a new free app called PDE (Prize Driving Energy), and a virtual tour available on the official site of the Award.

The selected works are also published in the photographic volume 'Driving Energy', presented as the official catalog of the Award.

“The notable results of the 2023 Award confirm the validity of Terna's choice to promote a cultural project for the benefit of the country. The quantity and quality of participation are the expression of a clear message: the desire to all work together for contemporary Italian photography, and to do so with commitment, passion and creativity. And with that dose of courage that is always needed,” he commented Igor De Biasio, President of Terna.

The Driving Energy Award is an important tool in this sense: it helps us make what we do well known. And it does so by respecting the criteria and values ​​that guide our activities, including in the culture sector,” he declared Josephine of Foggia, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Terna.
