The electricity group has signed an agreement with the Universities of Cagliari, Palermo and Salerno – 12 masters on the development of technological and strategic skills for the country's digital transformation and energy transition are underway.

Terna today signed a collaboration agreement with the Universities of Cagliari, Palermo and Salerno which ratifies the formal launch of the Tyrrhenian Lab. This is a project in which the group that manages the national electricity grid will invest 100 million euros over 5 years with the aim of establishing, in close collaboration with the three universities, a training center of excellence distributed in the offices of the respective cities where the Tyrrhenian Link cables will land, Terna's submarine power line which will unite Campania, Sicily and Sardinia, for a total of 950 km of connection and 3,7 billion euros of investments.

The agreement was signed by Francesco Del Pizzo, Grid Development and Dispatching Strategies director of Terna, and by the rectors of the three universities involved: Prof. Francesco Mola for the University of Cagliari, Prof. Massimo Midiri for the University of Palermo and Prof. Vincenzo Loia for the University of Salerno.

“The Tyrrhenian Lab, approved as part of the recent update of Terna's 2021-2025 'Driving Energy' business plan, will be an integral and permanent part of our organization. Without a doubt, one of the most important values ​​for a company is the development of technological and entrepreneurial skills”, he declared Francesco Del Pizzo, Director of Grid Development and Dispatching Strategies at Terna. “The project once again demonstrates Terna's sense of responsibility towards the electricity transmission sector: technological innovation in our market is still to be built – added Del Pizzo – and we, as a national operator, we have the task of training and developing excellent professionals. The South is confirmed as a source of strong development for Terna, in terms of both new infrastructures and highly specialized skills".

A special meeting was also set up as part of the meeting scientific Committee who will have the task of planning the activities related to the centers of excellence. The committee, chaired by Francesco Del Pizzo, will include Terna's management and the three Rectors of the universities involved.

"Thanks to the Tyrrhenian Lab, between autumn 2022 and 2025, Terna expects the training of more than 150 highly professional figures who will be provided with a 12-month university master focused on the development of technological and strategic skills functional to the transformation digital technology and the country's energy transition", explains the company in a note, adding that "with the launch of the first masters, Terna will make three ad hoc offices available in Cagliari, Salerno and Palermo, organized in innovative ways and equipped with highly technological”

Based on the provisions, at full capacity, at least 200 people will work in the Tyrrhenian Lab offices with an associated industry of 1.000 additional professionals involved.
The excellent training course will be characterized by a mix of classroom study and field experience, thanks to the opportunity to undertake an internship in the company led by Stefano Donnarumma. Once the 12 months of the master have been completed, the students will then be able to be hired in Terna's local offices in the three cities.
