Terna, agreement for 500 km of grid in Brazil

The agreement with the Planova group will lead to the construction of new lines, respectively for 158 km in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and 350 km in the state of Mato Grosso.

Terna has closed the operation with the Planova Group for the acquisition of two concessions for the construction and operation of approximately 500 km of electricity infrastructure in Brazil. The development, design and construction (EPC) activities will be entrusted to the Planova Group, as 'builder' on behalf of the Terna Group.

The completion of the transaction, carried out through the subsidiary Terna Plus and achieved with the acquisition of two Brazilian vehicle companies “SPE – Santa Maria Transmissora de Energia SA” and “SPE – Santa Lucia Transmissora de Energia SA”, will lead to the creation of new lines, respectively for 158 km in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and for 350 km in the State of Mato Grosso. The value of the contract (which includes development and construction costs) is approximately USD 180 million.

The agreement is part of the Terna Group's strategy for the development of electricity networks and infrastructures abroad, thanks to the know-how gained in the core business of electric transmission.

Terna has also signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for an 85 million euro loan, with a duration of 22 years, in support of investments for the development of the Capri-mainland electricity connection and for the reorganization of the Sorrento Peninsula, which involves the construction of a new 150 kV grid to replace the current 60 kV one. The agreement provides for a fixed rate tranche, equal to 1,386%, for an amount of 73,55 million euro and a variable rate tranche, subject to the occurrence of certain conditions, equal to EURIBOR 6m + 0,343% for an amount 11,45 million euros.
