Terna, electricity demand drops in June

The decrease is equal to 0,8%, but rises to -1,3% if adjusted for the effect of temperature (about one degree Celsius higher in the monthly average) – In economic terms, the seasonally adjusted variation of electricity demand in June 2014 was equal to +0,5% – The trend profile however remains on a negative trend.

In June, the demand for electricity required in Italy, equal to 25,9 billion kWh, decreased by 0,8% compared to June last year. This was announced by Terna this morning, specifying that the change in electricity demand in June was reduced by 1,3% if adjusted for the temperature effect.

Compared to the corresponding month of 2013, for the same number of working days (20), the average monthly temperature was approximately one degree centigrade higher. In economic terms, the seasonally adjusted change in electricity demand in June 2014 was +0,5%. However, the trend profile remains on a negative trend.

In the first six months of 2014, the demand for electricity decreased by 3% compared to the values ​​of the corresponding period of 2013; with the same calendar, the value is equal to -2,8%.

Of the 25,9 billion kWh requested last month, 47,1% are distributed in the North, 29,1% in the Center and 23,8% in the South. At a territorial level, the variation in energy demand Electricity in June was negative everywhere: -0,5% in the North, -1,3% in the Center and -1,0% in the South.

Again in June, 88,3% of the demand for electricity was met with domestic production and the remainder (11,7%) with the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries.

In detail, net national production (23,1 billion kWh) fell by 0,4% compared to June 2013. Sources of thermal production increased (+1,1%), geothermal (+6,7% ) and photovoltaic (+2,0%). On the other hand, water (-3,4%) and wind (-9,7%) sources were down.
