Terna: 1 billion for the Abruzzo-Marche electricity line

It's called Adriatic Link and it's the new power line, largely underwater and completely invisible, which will exchange electricity between Abruzzo and the Marches. The project will cost Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, one billion euros and is part of the investment plan between now and 2025. The new interconnection is about 285 km long overall (of which 35 km in the terrestrial part but always underground) between the two electricity stations of Cepagatti (from which energy is also exchanged in the interconnection with Montenegro), in the province of Pescara, and Fano in the Marche region.

"A strategic work for the national electricity system, at the forefront of technology and environmental sustainability", writes Terna in the press release. In fact, the infrastructure will encourage the development and integration of renewable sources, contributing to the decarbonisation of the Italian energy system, in line with the objectives outlined in the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan. It will also allow for improve the electrical exchange capacity between the different areas of the country, especially between the Centre-South and the Centre-North thanks to an increase of approximately 1.000 MW of power, increasing the efficiency, reliability and resilience of the electricity transmission grid.

The Adriatic Link, on which Arera also recently expressed a favorable opinion in the opinion sent to the MiSE, is one of the main grid development projects planned by Terna which, with almost 9 billion euros of investments envisaged in the Business Plan 2021-2025, further strengthens its role as director and enabler of the energy transition, as well as that of Italy as the electricity hub of Europe and the entire Mediterranean area.
