Rome waste-to-energy plant: “Daje” is born, the Committee in support of the plant. Here are the promoters

Does the waste-to-energy plant in Rome really need a support committee? The position taken by the Cinquestelle against the construction of the structure sounds like yet another provocation (if not worse) against innovation and environmental technologies tested in half the world.

The "Daje" Committee in support of the plant

The answer is therefore yes, the waste-to-energy plant in Rome needs to be supported. The Committee was born, it's called "Daje" and is creating a movement of opinion to support the choice of mayor Gualtieri. "The decision to close the waste cycle with landfills is a historic occasion for the capital". Finally, the appeal reads, "Mayor Gualtieri dares to break the taboo that has condemned the city for decades to be commonly linked to the waste emergency".

Announcing the construction within four years of a modern publicly controlled waste-to-energy plant Rome lines up with the rest of European capitals all equipped with intelligent disposal systems for the non-recoverable part of the waste. In the middle there are also the energy benefits for citizens, as demonstrated by the case of Acerra and the revenge of the Neapolitan town thanks to the A2A system. The waste treatment process produces clean energy and Rome will take advantage of it for the next few years. On the other hand, for those who discuss the possible negative effects on differentiated waste collection, it is demonstrated that modern systems are not an obstacle at all, on the contrary they make it progress. So these are inconsistent accusations that obscure, moreover, the real data of separate waste collection in Rome.

Rome waste-to-energy plant: who are the promoters of the Committee

Among the signatories of the Manifesto of the Committee there are exponents of the world of associations, politics, journalists and entrepreneurs who have the fate of Rome at heart. With them evidently many "citizens fed up with expensive, precarious, inefficient and environmentally unsustainable makeshift solutions in the disposal of urban waste to which the previous Capitoline administrations promptly resorted".

It would be all too obvious to recall the arid positions on waste-to-energy plants of a former Minister of the Environment or of Mayor Virginia Raggi. Today's opposing and minority voices to Gualtieri's announcement in these hours are trying to raise the level of the controversy up to the government. But it is not a fitting controversy with the circular economy and green transition strategies appreciated in Europe. On the other hand we are talking about an investment of around 800 million euros in view of the Jubilee.

“We are an open group, without ideological affiliations”, the promoters specify, “simply united by the belief that for the cleanliness and decorum of Rome the time has come to overcome the obstructionism of an idea of environmentalism made up only of attitudes closed and fleeing from reality. This is why we express our support for the mayor's decision to equip Rome with waste-to-energy technology".
