But the Pd still want the waste-to-energy plant a Rome? It's a good question that has become increasingly disturbing not only for the Capitoline left but for the Romans who experience the eternal emergency of garbage after the ascent to the secretariat of the Pd of Elly Schlein which on the subject has always been vague to say the least. You have never said no to the waste-to-energy plant but you have done everything not to disappoint the Five Stars which, after making Rome unlivable with the ruinous Giunta grillina of Virginia Rayshave always opposed the waste-to-energy plant despite almost all the experts believing that it is the only way to allow Rome to resolve the waste crisis once and for all. And in fact the waste-to-energy plant was until recently the banner of the Pd council led by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. But the recent appointment to the Schlein secretariat of Barbara Corrado, a fierce opponent of the waste-to-energy plant, as head of the environment casts a shadow on the future choices of the Democratic Party and not only in Rome.
WASTE-TO-ENERGY PLANT IN ROME: TWO WORRY SHADOWS
On the waste-to-energy plant, however, there are two political innovations that mortgage its future. The first goes back to the few declarations on the subject by Schlein who from the beginning of his secretariat maintained that on the waste-to-energy plant in Rome every decision could not be left to the Capital but it was necessary to involve all the mayors of the Province. Theoretically very democratic line but in reality very ambiguous on a political level because the selfish philosophy of "Not in my nimby" is also very widespread in the Democratic Party and nobody would like a waste-to-energy plant close to home, even if - Emilia teaches: hear about it the testimony of Romano Prodi – the new plants are absolutely reliable both in terms of environmental protection and health.
WASTE-TO-ENERGY PLANT: SCHLEIN'S BREATHAFT ON THE PD AND MAYOR GUALTIERI
So far the mayor Gualtieri has kept the course and defended the choice of the waste-to-energy plant by dribbling Schlein's perplexities, but it is by no means certain that the entire Capitoline Democratic Party is with him. What happened in the municipal assembly of March 31 is worrying because an order from the group leader of Italy Viva, Valerio Casini, who proposed a timetable for the construction of the waste-to-energy plant, was inexorably rejected. Yet the time factor is essential and Italia Viva suggested a very simple but very clear road map, namely: publication of the call for tenders by 2023 August 2024, opening of construction sites by July 2026 and start-up of the waste-to-energy plant by the summer of XNUMX. No way. Certainly the mayor Gualtieri and the Capitoline Pd can still remedy but the signals are disturbing and many are beginning to wonder if the fluctuations on the waste-to-energy plant are not the Schlein effect also on Rome.
