Tenores, a Cannonau red that sings in Sardinian

The Sardinian Alessandro Dettori has proved to be one of the most innovative producers of recent years who is inspired only by tradition and territory - His cellar is totally underground - Tenores Romangia lgt is the most famous wine with a fascinating history

One of the Italian producers who in recent years has proved to be one of the most interesting on the wine scene is, without any doubt, Alessandro Dettori. Alessandro produces wines only of Tradition and Territory, an obligatory choice especially for those who, like him, have great respect for their ancient land and care about its fate. All of this led him over the years, first to an accurate and in-depth study of the local wine heritage and, later, to embrace the theories of Biodynamics, becoming one of its most strenuous supporters, managing to transmit its principles with extreme simplicity.

Wine-making Italy owes a lot to this young producer, both for the example he managed to instill, and for the image of a true craftsman and winemaker who was able to involve many other producers in the Renaissance des Appellations (an international organization that brings together biodynamic winemakers). Great communicator, he succeeds in getting a subject that is sometimes difficult to reach. In order to fully understand the greatness of this producer it is necessary to place the territory in the heart of the Sassari area: Romangia. A well-defined geographical area to which the municipality of Sennori belongs. A hilly enclave that slopes gently towards the sea, where myrtle, artemisia, helichrysum and all the Mediterranean scrub surround splendid vineyards over one hundred years old. An ancient land, with its own language and a long history behind it, where the vine boasts a millenary presence.

Making wine in these parts is the most natural thing in the world, it takes advantage of ancient gestures, of old vines trained as saplings, of local wisdom, of a historical legacy that passes from father to son, from grandfather to father. The hectares of vineyards are divided into many small crus and wines from individual vineyards they keep exactly the name of the vineyard on the label. In order for the different vines to express the Terroir to which they belong, the processes do not include the addition of yeasts or sulphites. Among the vines used are Cannonau, Monica, Pascale, Vermentino and Moscato. Ancestral and fascinating wines that deserve the right space on the table, such as the well-known Tenores Romangia Igt - from the Cannonau grape variety.

The name recalls the Canto a Tenoressweet and deep at the same time. As well as the wine that bears his name. Lively garnet of medium transparency. The scent unfolds over a long period of time. At the beginning we are welcomed by a fruity note of ripe plum which immediately gives way to rose and violet, and then wraps itself in salty, sulphurous notes, but above all in the sublime ones of myrtle and artemisia. The taste is enveloping and structured, with a controlled and measured fullness. The balance achieved is splendid, which reveals great sapidity, warmth but above all a noble tannin through the senses. The aromas in the mouth end with mineral and spicy hints. Stop in cement tanks for two years, half of which on the lees.

A wine with a remarkable personality that will be exalted alongside a roast kid or lamb. On sheep cheeses.

Tenute Dettori is located in Badde Nigolosu, Sennori, in the province of Sassari, in that small triangle of land between Porto Torres, Sassari and Castelsardo, called Romangia, which has always been considered the cradle of Cannonau. It is an area rich in vineyards, olive groves and historical vestiges, such as the nuraghe of Bedda Margherita and Bedde Pittu and the famous Domus de Janas.
Tenute Dettori is a family business, the cellar is built entirely underground and is simple and traditional, where the grapes and the must move by gravity and all the material for fermentation and maturation is in concrete. The grapes come from the magnificent Badde Nigolosu cru, a sort of amphitheater, at about 250 meters above sea level, surrounded by verdant hills. The soil is predominantly calcareous and rich in sandstone: the combination of these two minerals gives it its typical creamy white colour.

The company philosophy provides that everything happens in the most natural way possible, accompanying natural processes in completing their cycles without any intervention from external agents. So no fertilizers and other chemical products in the vineyard and no chemical additives or selected yeasts in the cellar. Just think how, in 2008, the vineyard was attacked by downy mildew, but the family refused to use any type of poison to eradicate the terrible microorganism so as not to fail in their production philosophy.

Tenute Dettori is a company certified organic by Suole e Salute and certified biodynamic by Demeter.
