As the new year begins, 2024 brings with it the inevitable price increases e rates in several sectors, forcing Italian families to prepare for a series of unwelcome financial surprises. Between highway tolls, telephony, bills e insurance the bill, according to Codacons estimates, could reach a total of 974 euros in price increases per family. Here are all the increases from January 2024 and how to try to defend yourself.
Telephony: here are all the increases from January 2024
From 1 January 2024, Team increases the cost of the paper bill for landline customers, going from 3,90 to 4,95 euros per bill. A move that could push us to give up paper and embrace digital ecology.
From December 2023 or at the latest January 2024, some offers of TimVision will undergo a monthly increase between 0,99 and 4,99 euros (VAT included). Withdrawal without costs is possible for those who do not accept these changes.
Fastweb, for fixed network subscribers, will apply increases from 0,01 to 4,49 euros per month starting from 1 January 2024. WindTre the cost of some landline offers will increase by 2 euros per month (plus VAT for customers with a VAT number).
From 1 January 2024, PosteMobile Home Web will standardize the monthly rate at 22,90 euros for all customers, regardless of previous rates.
Vodafone will change the billing frequency for the fixed line, moving to an anticipated monthly frequency from 31 January 2024, without tariff changes.
To defend against increases, it is important to remember your right to leave your subscription company without cost or penalty in the event of unilateral contract changes.
Insurance: Auto TPL
Consumer associations also predict possible increases for Car Insurance. Codacons estimates an increase in spending of around 62 euros for a family with two cars. At the moment, there are no official increases, but car liability insurance has already increased by 6,2% in October 2023 compared to the previous year.
Motorways: increases already decided from 1 January 2024
From January 1, 2024, motorway travel becomes more expensive. Autostrade per l'Italia decides an average increase of 1,51%, while other operators will make drivers pay an average increase of 2,3%, in line with 2024 inflation. Gas: end of the protected market and VAT increase
January 2024 marks the end of the protected market for gas and the beginning of the free market. A transition that will affect as many as 5 million families in the coming weeks. But will you pay more or less? As Arera underlines, in 95% of cases you pay more, compared to only 5%, however, who pay less.
The government hopes for a decline in gas prices, but the relief may be limited due to the return to 22% VAT on this raw material (compared to 5% until December 2023).
Banks, local rates and tourism
The list of price increases expands further: as reported by Codacons, significant increases are also expected in banking sector (+18 euros per family unit for financial and banking services); in local rates (+60 euros for waste, water, etc.); and in the costs associated with bar e restaurants (+68 euros per year per family for consuming outside the home). In the sector tourist, the increases in the price lists will also be confirmed which will involve accommodation facilities, holiday packages, beach establishments and various services, with an expected increase of +120 euros per family unit.
