Telemarketing how to defend yourself: registrations in the Opposition Register from 27 July

The announcement came from the president of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the protection of consumers and users, Simone Baldelli: "From the 27 July, the new public register of oppositions will open to an audience of 78 million mobile telephone users. In this context, I hope that the dialogue initiated by the government itself with operators in the sector can contribute, together with the information campaign, to making the new register a known and finally effective protection tool for telephone users who are potentially recipients of unwanted telemarketing calls, and we also hope for those operated by irregular call centers or those based in foreign countries". So here's how to defend yourself from unwanted Telemarketing.

What is the Opposition Register?

The register of oppositions is a service to which citizens can register for free no longer be contacted by telemarketing operatorsg, unless the latter have obtained specific consent to use the data. Until now, the Register was only available for fixed numbers and paper mail. With the reform approved by the Draghi government it will be also extended to mobile numbers, giving citizens the opportunity to withdraw their consent to promotional calls and the sending of advertising material for mobile telephone users.

How does the Register of Oppositions work?

It will contain national, fixed and mobile numbers, even if they are not present in the telephone directories. Subscribing to the register will prevent telemarketing operators from contacting us, both through classic voice calls and through those made with automated methods. Registration will also entail the cancellation of all consents issued in the past for telemarketing purposes and will ban the transfer of personal data to third parties.

How to register?

Telemarketing how to defend yourself: news from the Antitrust

In addition to the possibility of subscribing to the Opposition Register to block harassing calls on our mobile phones, another novelty could soon arrive. It was anticipated by the President of the Antitrust Authority, Roberto Rustichelli, who during a speech before the Commission said he intended to ensure that "the contractual bond can arise only following the confirmation of the offer, by the consumer, in writing". A change that would make it possible to combat the phenomenon of "aggressive and savage telemarketing, i.e. repeated, harassing, unwanted phone calls that insistently solicit acceptance of commercial gas and electricity offers, on the basis of non-transparent informationof a deceitful nature".
