Digital+ is in Telefonica's sights. In fact, the telephone giant that controls Telecom has launched a binding offer of 725 million euros for the acquisition of 56% of Iberian pay TV from the current majority shareholder, Prisa.
This was announced in a communication from the same company to the Comisiòn Nacional del Mercado de Valores (Cnmv), the Spanish equivalent of Consob.
Telefonica already holds a 22% stake in Digital+, the same stake held by Mediaset Espana. The two groups had a priority over 56% of pay TV.
For Telefonica, which is facing strong competition on the domestic market, controlling Digital+'s business would mean having more flexibility in preparing tailor-made offers for customers, being able to offer integrated packages with fixed-line TV subscriptions, mobile phone services and internet .
