Time for first balance sheets for Nokia e Samsung, which in first quarter 2017 have had a very different course.
The Korean group has recorded a net profit of 6,23 billion euros, with a growth of 46% compared to the same period last year. It's about the best quarter since 2013. Operating income increased by 48% to 9,89 billion, while revenues amounted to 50,55 billion, up thanks to the excellent results of the division semiconductors (memory chips for computers and mobile phones) and the launch of the new Galaxy S8.
With these results Samsung recovers from a negative period, after allegations of corruption and Galaxy Note 7 discontinued in autumn due to the explosion of some batteries.
Nokia however, officially returned to the smartphone market in January with the launch of the Nokia 6, it recorded a net loss of 473 million euros. THE revenues are down, in the first three months of the year, of 2%, to 5,37 billion.
The acquisition of the French company was decisive for the negative trend of the Nokia accounts Alcatel-Lucent, which took place in April 2015 for 15,6 billion euros. Excluding the costs relating to this operation, the net result would be positive by 196 million, while the operating result - which is negative by 127 million - would be plus at 341 million.
The president and CEO of Nokia, the Indian Rajeev Suri, however, it confirms the guidance for the whole of 2017, reassuring investors and shareholders: “Our market position is strong”.
