Telecom: close Argentina sale, no merger with Oi

The sale of is approaching Telecom-Argentina, which according to plans will take place within this year, and the news pleases the markets. In fact, the Telecom Italia share rises in Piazza Affari in view of the go-ahead of theauthority of Argentine telecommunications to the acquisition by Fintech of control over Telecom Argentina. At midday, the share approaches 0,9 euros, gaining 2,77%, in the market - that of the Ftse Mib - which advances by 1,9%.

The go-ahead from the authority is therefore expected within days, after last October the same body had instead expressed a contrary opinion. In November 2013 Telecom had already stipulated the agreements for the transfer of the shares, valued at 960 million dollars. For Telecom it would translate into a further collection of 630 million, after having already invested 330 million dollars in the portfolio.

Meanwhile Il Sole 24 Ore returns to talk about the negotiation for the sale Inwit, saying that the probabilities of a sale are once again rising eiTowers (which offers 5 euros per share for 29,9% of the capital) compared to Cellnex (whose offer would be for 45% of the share capital but at a price of 4,3 euros per share, possibly revisable upwards). Binding offers must be filed by 11 March.

Meanwhile, today Tim also communicated to LetterOne the intention not to continue with the negotiations for a merger between the Brazilian subsidiary and Oi in the South American country. A note from LetterOne communicates it: the objective of the investment company led by the Russian tycoon Mikhail Fridman was to create a new entity by merging Oi and Tim Brasil and thus favoring consolidation in the market. In the new entity, Tim would have a minority stake of 34 percent.

“There have been – reads LetterOne's press release – negotiations with many stakeholders in Brazil, and also with Tim, and for this L1 Technology thanks everyone for the interest shown”. L1 Technology, the note continues, was informed by Tim that the company "does not want to proceed into further discussions in order to achieve a merger between Oi and Tim in Brazil".
