Telecom, Patuano tightens the timing of the negotiation with Netflix

The democratic revolution Netflix is getting closer and closer to landing in Italy. This is confirmed by the CEO of Telecom Italy Marco Patuano who, during a hearing in the Transport Committee of the Chamber, declared that the company, which has already reached an agreement with Sky Italia and which is also negotiating with Mediaset at the same time, is discussing with the US on-demand streaming company for the supply of content on demand.

"We're also talking to Netflix", confirmed Patuano, specifying that for the US giant, which has over 50 million subscribers, signing an agreement with telecommunications operators would not be new: "Netflix is already available on the of the incumbent operator Belgacom”.

Patuano also confirmed that in the next months”the entire Sky package will be offered on the fixed network IP platform", clarifying, however, that "the agreement with Sky does not provide for any exclusivity as our platform is neutral and open to any content provider”. In any case, Telecom will not produce content for its platform.

As regards, however, the unbundling of the network, Patuano confirms that Telecom does not see the need for it. “There are two things that determine network equivalence in access to operators: the non-application of asymmetry and the second is quality. To do this we have set up the supervisory body that monitors”.
