Telecom, Letta: “It's a private, strategic network. Government and Chambers do not cheer"

“I reiterate what I have always said but clearly: Telecom is a private company, there are market rules that must be respected and we want to attract investments”. This was stated by the Prime Minister, Enrico Letta, replying in a press conference to the president of the Senate Industry Commission, Massimo Mucchetti, who in an interview accused him of supporting Telefonica to acquire control of Telecom and of not wanting to amend the law on the takeover bid.

"The Government - he explained - does not take sides with anyone, not even the Parliament must make rules that help a player". Rather, the Executive “is absolutely in the field to ensure maximum investment and the need for investment. As far as the network is concerned, however, it is a strategic asset for the country and it is the line held up to now".
