Telecom Italia-unions: agreement on 4.500 redundancies

The agreement, signed overnight after a river of negotiations, provides for an early retirement, retraining and internalization plan - The company has accepted the unions' request to use solidarity contracts for 29.500 workers instead of the extraordinary redundancy fund

After a river negotiation, Telecom Italy and sindacati category Slc Cgil, Fistel Cisl and Uilcom Uil signed an agreement last night for the management of 4.500 redundancies. The government's mediation, which began at the Ministry of Labor around noon yesterday, was decisive.

The company has accepted the unions' request to use i solidarity contracts for 29.500 workers instead of the extraordinary redundancy fund. The solidarity contract will not apply to the 14 network workers, whose separation is legal Agcom has given the first go-ahead.

On the redundancy front, the agreement also provides for the use of early retirement provided for in article 4 of the Fornero law. This year, workers who had filed an application with the agreement signed in 2015 will be eligible for early retirement, while in 2019 it will be up to those who acquire the right to a pension by 31 May 2024. The following year it will be the turn of the workers who acquire the right to retire by 31 December 2025.

To reabsorb the redundancies are also provided redevelopments e internalizations.

Telecom also said it was available to reopen from September second level contract, which had been canceled in the past by the company itself to adopt a unilateral regulation.

At this point the agreement signed with the unions will be submitted to the consultation of the workers.

Tonight's deal came after a long arm wrestling, on the last useful day foreseen by the procedure. In January Tim had presented a personnel restructuring plan to the unions which, in the face of thousands of redundancies, proposed 6.500 voluntary exits (including early retirements and incentives), 3.500 retraining and 2 hirings to be financed with expansive solidarity. The trade unions opposed it, contesting above all the use of solidarity, an instrument which did not provide for an application deadline, and in March the company had proposed the hypothesis of the CIGS. After a series of meetings at the Ministry, therefore with the mediation of the government, tonight's agreement was reached.
