Telecom Italia, incoming offer for Tim Brasil

The South American subsidiary denies it, but some maneuvers seem to confirm the rumors about 32 billion reais put up by a consortium.

Grupo Oi, America Movil and Telefonica would have reached an agreement to launch a 32 billion reais offer on Tim Brazil. The indiscretion has not been denied by potential buyers. Telecom Italia's South American subsidiary, on the other hand, made it known that it had not received offers or started talks.

But over the weekend the billionaire Patrick Drahi, at the helm of Altice, made an offer of 8,8 billion dollars for the purchase of Portugal Telecom's assets from Oi, which would thus have raised the necessary capital to launch the offer on Tim Brasil, an anticipation that sent the stock up 15%. The bidders are confident that the offer will not meet political resistance after the affirmation of Dilma Rousseff in the presidential elections.

UPDATE 9.30

In the wake of the news, Telecom Italia's share on the Stock Exchange gained almost one and a half percentage points at the opening today, a 0,9155 euros, achieving one of the best increases in the Ftse Mib.
