Telecom Italia – Fastweb: broadband agreement with FTTCab networks

Telecom Italia and Fastweb, a Swisscom subsidiary, have signed a collaboration agreement for the development of the new generation fixed telephone network "Fiber to the Cabinet" (FTTCab). A statement from the company says it, specifying that the agreement "provides for the possibility of sharing investments and costs in the construction of infrastructures". The memorandum of understanding will be open to all operators interested in co-investing in infrastructures and platforms.

FTTCab technology plans to carry the optical fiber up to the distribution cabinets, located in the streets, from which the copper cables (the classic telephone "twisted pairs") depart and arrive at each apartment.

On the contrary, the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti is starting to create, through Metroweb, a new generation network that focuses on Fiber to the home (FTTH) technology, which plans to bring optical fiber directly into homes.

At the end of the morning, Telecom Italia shares lost 0,24%.
