Telecom, 700 million for cuts without layoffs

The Telecom plan for generational turnover, which will be the focus of the January 18 meeting with the trade unions, will have a budget of 700 million and envisages a few thousand new hires against potential redundancies between 5 and 10 thousand units which will however managed without layoffs but with the use of shared forms of exit incentives

Telecom Italia, according to Radiocor Plus, will invest around 700 million euros starting this year to pay for the generational turnover plan which, in the face of a few thousand new hires, could lead to potential redundancies of between 5 and 10 thousand in the three-year period 2018- 2020. Against this figure, savings are obviously expected for the group led by Amos Genish who should more than repay the initial outlay over the course of the plan.

The objective of the turnover plan is to modernize a company where the average age is 49 and to acquire new skills. However, management has no intention of managing redundancies with layoffs but of using the rich range of alternative possibilities offered by the laws.

More clarity, in the face of the rumors about the redundancies that are being chased in these days, will be made by Telecom in the meeting of January 18 with the trade unions (Fistel Cisl, Slc Cgil and Uilcom Uil), who have said in the past a use of solidarity only in a defensive key. The management's intention is to reach a shared agreement with the unions in view of the new business plan which will be presented on 6 March.

The company's goal is to rapidly transform the group, proceeding, among other things, on the path of digitizing processes and building the tools necessary to renew the business. A change that in terms of human resources provides for the adaptation of the structure to technological and organizational changes and the management of the effects of the cessation of defensive solidarity which ended in December, and of article 4 of the Fornero Law.

As for the tools to be used, in particular the group intends to promote interventions based on expansive solidarity (we are talking about a reduction of 10-20 minutes a day in working hours to pay for new hires), article 4 of the Fornero Law , also in the light of the Stability law which extended the possibility of early retirement to seven years, and through early retirement incentives to be offered to employees who do not fall within the scope of applicability of article 4.

But other types of innovative interventions to be studied with the trade unions are not excluded. In addition, Telecom intends to use structural tools that contribute to the economic sustainability of possible entries, continuing the professional retraining operation aimed at insourcing, enhancing the training of all personnel on digital skills.
