The Guardia di Finanza announced that it had discovered, in 2012 alone, oOver 8 total tax evaders, who allegedly concealed income of 22,7 billion euros from the tax authorities. In addition to these, 12.000 persons responsible for crimes and tax frauds have been targeted by the Fiamme Gialle.
The most common frauds were the issuing of false invoices (5.836 violations), non-payment of VAT (519 cases), omission of the tax return (2.579 violations) and destruction of accounts (2.220 cases). On the other hand, international tax evasion amounts to 17,1 billion euros, between fictitious transfers of residences and the movement of capital abroad.
But the impressive data on the level of evasion in Italy does not end there: 16.233 undeclared workers and 13.837 illegal workers have been identified, while 32% of the checks on receipts and tax receipts were found to be irregular.
The work of the Guardia di Finanza would have allowed, according to the note, to recover the taxes about 6,3 billion. The movable and immovable assets seized would exceed one billion euros. The general commander of the Fiamme Gialle Saverio Capolupo declared that "We will continue our action decisively to recover the resources stolen from the state budget". In addition to repression, for Capolupo, it is also essential to focus on "prevention based on awareness of legality".
