Tav, EU expects to cut funds to Italy for its delays

In the autumn, the European Commission will review the amount of EU funding for the Turin-Lyon high-speed line. The decision came after yesterday's intergovernmental conference between Italy and France. “Taking into consideration the delays accumulated by the project over the last 18 months, the Commission will now examine, as planned and in line with the medium-term forecast together with the two countries and the Ten-T Executive Agency, how far the works can proceed to the activities that had been identified for co-financing during the period foreseen by the existing Ten-T programme. So the funding decision will be reviewed accordingly in the autumn”, explains a note released from Brussels. However, the figures and extent of the downsizing have not yet been disclosed. However, the Commission reaffirmed its full support and affirmed that it was always committed to supporting “France and Italy in the completion of the Turin-Lyon railway axis. This missing link of the trans-European transport network - noted Brussels - will connect not only two important cities and regions, but will complete one of the main East-West European transport corridors, linking the Iberian Peninsula to central Europe and contributing to the economic growth of the continent ”.
