Tav, tension skyrocketing: that's what's happening

In Turin the grillino odg against the Tav approved amidst the controversy but for the first time the Yes Tav front is numerous, which includes companies, unions and Pds that promise the march of the 100 thousand - Perino, No Tav leader critical of the M5S: "They're sitting in more important places than they are." – The Yes Tav are also tough: “In the face of ideological barriers it is difficult to argue” – The clash between the Lega and M5S is also looming on the Tav

Tav, tension skyrocketing: that's what's happening

On one side, the No Tav front, on the other, for the first time numerous, that of the Yes Tav. In the center, the civic building with the police in riot gear busy blocking the entrances and separating the two fronts.

It is a crucial day in Turin where the City Council approved the agenda presented by the pentastellate majority on the Turin-Lyon high-speed train which also caused more than one friction inside the courtroom: the result was the expulsion of the councilors of the Democratic Party (including Piero Fassino), of the Moderates, of Cantiere civico and the suspension of the session. But in the end, with a little hustle and bustle, the vote arrived and the No Tav majority, supported by the Five Stars, prevailed.

THE NO TAV AGENDA OF THE GRILLINA MAJORITY IN TURIN

At the center of the controversy, more and more incandescent by the hour, the agenda of the majority, through which the Municipality of Turin will officially ask the Government to give up the construction of the Turin-Lyon high-speed line.

The major absentee of the day (because in Dubai) was the mayor Chiara Appendino who, however, on the eve of the session, had reiterated her position: “We have always been against the Tav, the position has already been known for some time. Now the decision is up to the government and I hope a conclusion will be reached quickly ”, he said on the sidelines of the climate change initiative“ Climathon ”.

I NO TAV AND I YES TAV

Despite the position of the Turin municipality, the front of the No Tav uses very harsh words towards the 5 Star Movement, which after the bitter controversies aroused by the Yes to the Tap, now risks replying on high speed.

Alberto Perino, leader of the No Tav Movement and committees of the Valle the Executive warned: "If the government decides yes to the Tav we will continue on our path, we have been fighting for 29 years". Then with reference to the position of the M5S (which promised to block the Turin-Lyon during the electoral campaign), he explains: "I'm not even disappointed, they are seated in more important places than they are. It's not easy, we should talk less and study more like Conte who at least doesn't rant ”.

On the other side of the fence, that of Yes Tav, the words used towards the Five Stars are certainly not lighter. The representatives of the productive categories have risen to the council while entrepreneurs and trade unionists (including the national leaders of Confindustria) participate in the garrison in front of the Municipality of Turin. Api, Unione Industriale, Amma, Ascom, Confartigianato, Cna, Confesercenti, Collegio Costruttori, Confapi and the Cisl and Fim for the trade unions were present.

"With the SiLavoro association we have already collected 13 signatures and 9 since yesterday alone - says Mino Giachino of Forza Italia - Turin is terrified of losing the opera. If we don't make the Mediterranean Corridor, the Silk Road cuts us off and we will continue to decrease. In the global society one does not stand still, one grows or one falls”.

"They didn't have the ability to listen, faced with ideological barriers it is difficult to argue. We have given a great sign of uniting businesses and unions together”, affirms the president of the Industrial Union Dario Gallina. “A march of the forty thousand? It will be one hundred thousand if it continues like this”, he adds, speaking of an event following the example of that of 1980 in Turin”, declared the president of the Industrial Union Dario Gallina after the meeting with the leader of the M5S in the Municipality Valentina Sganga and the first signatory of the odg against Tav Viviana Ferrero.

THE TAV ALSO CAUGHT THE GOVERNMENT

But if in Turin the tension between Yes Tav and No Tav grows by the hour, even between the two parties in government, which maintain diametrically opposed positions on the Tav, today it seems difficult to find the way of dialogue.

"The Tav is a strategic work and the League is in favour. We are awaiting a cost-benefit analysis and therefore the position of the majority is ideological and not supported by objective data – says the leader of the Lega Fabrizio Ricca -. We do not want to run the risk of seeing our territory cut off from European trade routes right now when it needs it most. There goes responsibility, clarity and the courage to take a stand for the good of Turin, even at the cost of displeasing one's majority".

“It is true, it is the first time that the Sí Tav have made themselves heard in such a concrete way, but we are willing to open a channel of dialogue – says Francesca Frediani, M5S regional councilor who arrived in the Municipality. “High speed - he continues - is not the right answer, I have others for entrepreneurs, for example we need to re-discuss the cost of energy”.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO BLOCK THE TAV

He also spoke on the issue iGovernment commissioner for high-speed trains Paolo Foietta, according to whom blocking work on the Turin-Lyon railway could cost us over two billion euros in penalties and disputes. A figure that has been circulating for months and which has always been contested by the No tav, according to which there would be no penalty in the event of "serious reasons".

We remind you that the works should start in the first months of 2018 and the costs – for the stretch Susa-Saint Jean de Maurienne are divided as follows: 40% by the EU, 35% by Italy, 25% by France. Total cost 8,6 billion euros.
