Tav and Brenner: 2 billion from the EU

Tav and Brenner: 2 billion from the EU

The European Commission has granted Italy EU funds from the Connecting Europe Facility to carry out 15 projects, including the Lyon-Turin high-speed railway (up to a maximum of 813 million to be divided with France) and the Brenner pass (up to approximately 1,2 billion maximum to be divided with Austria).

"I am pleased with the European Commission's proposal - commented Michele Mario Elia, CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane - to finance the cross-border projects relating to the Turin-Lyon line and the Brenner base tunnel, as well as two , of smaller amount, but also technically relevant, inserted on the Italian section of the Rhine-Alps Corridor. This demonstrates the quality of the projects that have been presented, in line with the strategic development choices of the European TEN-T corridors”. 

The Commission has selected 276 projects out of the approximately 700 arrived, to which it will assign a total of 13,1 billion euros. Italy, executive technicians explain, is in third place after Germany and France for the funding it will receive. 

The other selected projects include the upgrading of the Milan-Chiasso line (up to 40 million), the railway connection to Malpensa (up to 2 million), environmental solutions for the port of Genoa (up to 4,6 million), the study for the motorways of the sea (Gainnacore, up to 13 million), the improvement of the navigability of the Po (up to 9,2 million) and the study of its communication systems (up to 1,2 million), the strengthening of the Mediterranean corridor for cargo to Croatia (up to 2,4 million), the implementation of the Rotterdam-Genoa corridor (up to 13,6 million), two airspace management projects (up to approximately 245 million but to be divided with the other EU countries), the study for the creation of a European platform for optimizing the exchange of information for road transport (up to 7,4 million to be divided with the other EU countries), and the improvement of the terminal for container in the interport of Padua (up to 3,4 million).
