Taxes, tax bills: stop until May 31st

As was to be expected, the Government has extended the stop the collection and notification of tax records in consideration of the ongoing pandemic emergency. The suspension, which would have expired on April 30, is extended to May 31 next. This was announced by the Ministry of the Economy which specifies that the regulatory measure that will be included in a decree in the next few days to become immediately operational is being defined.

Without the suspension decided by the government, taxpayers and post offices would have been overwhelmed by millions of pending tax bills. The stop, introduced last year starting from 8 March in the midst of the pandemic, concerns all payments deriving from payment folders and debit and executive assessment notices but also the sending of new folders and the start of procedures such as lockouts, mortgages, foreclosures.

A relief for taxpayers made necessary by the pandemic emergency, but the Government is already looking beyond and is working to define the new tax reform which, as we know and as Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced, is one of the five reforms that accompany the Recovery Plan, which is duly sent yesterday to the European Commission, and which will be a decisive passport for receiving the funds provided by Brussels but also for finally modernizing Italy.
