A few days ago, at the headquarters of the Regional Tourism, Sport and Entertainment Department, the Extraordinary Commissioner of the TaoArte Foundation, Bernardo Campo, signed the contract appointing the conductor Venezi to lead the Taormina Arte Foundation. The Councilor for Tourism of the Sicilian Region was also present at the signing Manlio Messina (FDI) and the Superintendent of the TaoArte Foundation, Ester Bonafede.
"I'm ready to start this challenge right away, aware of the responsibilities but also of the great potential. I already have many ideas on what the activities to plan and the initiatives to implement in view of the next seasons could be. The priority objective is certainly that of relaunching the Taormina Arte Foundation on an international level, working in synergy with the local area and focusing on the extraordinary charm of the Ancient Theater,” Venezi said.
Too bad the controversy was immediate. In fact, the reaction of the was very harsh Mayor of Taormina, Mario Bolognari: “I learn from a press release that an artistic director of the Foundation has been appointed. The press release also says that the Foundation is made up of the Region and the municipality of Taormina, but I, who represent 50% of the Foundation, not only I have not been consulted, but not even informed of the decision".
In short, the municipality of Taormina knew nothing about it. So much so that Bolognari adds: "I don't know whether to consider this very serious act an abuse perpetrated against the city of Taormina or a simple institutional bullshit".
“Commune outside the Foundation”
After the fiery words, Bolognari intends to move on to deeds: "What is certain is that from now on my personal collaboration with the Foundation will cease and I will propose to the municipal council withdraw from the Foundation, revoking the contribution of the cinema house to the assets of the Foundation". Not only that, in the event of the Municipality leaving the Foundation, the mayor says he is ready to “do a legal action to remove the name of Taormina from that of the Foundation which would thus become a generic Art Foundation'”.
