Taddei (Pd): "A single tax rate on financial income"

The economic manager of the Democratic Party, Filippo Taddei explains the uniformity of taxation on financial income that Renzi has in mind but specifies: "Our priorities are the reduction of taxes on labor and the reduction of IRAP" to which the cuts will be aimed expenditure and the resources obtained from the remodulation of the taxation of annuities".

Taddei (Pd): "A single tax rate on financial income"

“We are thinking of standardizing the tax rates on financial income. No longer 20% on one side and 12,5% on government bonds, but a single rate for everything. We also want to drastically reduce the 11% tax rate on pension fund returns”. Filippo Taddei, economic manager of the Democratic Party and professor of macroeconomics at John Hopkins clarifies what is behind the "remodulation of the rates" that we are talking about these days. The young economist, on the other hand, does not reveal which "unique" tax rate he is thinking of. He limits himself to emphasizing that they will be "uniformed" and that from this fiscal tightening and from public spending savings, the Renzi government should find the necessary resources to reduce taxation on labor in the next 12 months.

“The coverage is around eight, ten billion – he specifies – about a quarter of these resources should come from tax rates”. While six billion from the expected savings on spending.

"The reduction of taxes on labor and the reduction of IRAP are our priorities - adds the economist - and as far as IRAP is concerned, it will not be a pure and simple abolition, but a mechanism aimed at rewarding those who really pay taxes . In fact, companies will be able to deduct the IRAP from the IRES, i.e. from the income, and professionals will be able to do the same, deducting the IRAP from the IRPEF. Those who do not declare income do not save". Isn't there the risk that, in doing so, those who don't earn will be penalized? “It's a risk, but we are convinced that those who behave correctly will be able to get back on track in a short time. Those who are incorrect, on the other hand, will be forced to come out into the open, to take advantage of the tax benefits".

Taddei talks about these issues on the occasion of the presentation of Emanuele Felice's book "Why the South is left behind", published by the Mill. A volume that imputes responsibility for the situation in the South to the southern post-unification ruling class, an analysis that has already aroused much controversy, but which Taddei likes for its scientific seriousness and for the economic data collected by the author.

“The Renzi government – observes the economist – does not envisage a ministry for the South, because we don't want to make rhetoric on the southern question, just as we don't want to do it on the fight against tax evasion. Instead, we want to act on these fronts and then talk about them, when we start to see the results. Not only the south, but the whole country needs organic work, so that the healthy part becomes prevalent".
