On the Moon with Elon Musk: NASA chooses SpaceX

It will be thanks to Elon Musk that we will return to the moon? It's possible. Tesla's number one and founder of thespace company SpaceX scored an important point, bringing home a 2,9 billion contract dollars with NASA.

The US space agency announced last night that it has chosen SpaceX for its next mission on the Moon, which could arrive as early as 2024. The Californian company will build the spacecraft that will take US astronauts to the earth's satellite.

The contract with NASA marks another great victory for Space X which "thus rises to the top of the nation's aerospace companies and confirms itself as one of the space agency's most trusted partners", underlines the The Washington Post. Not a small victory, given that his historic opponent, Blue Origin, of the founder of Amazon, was also in the running Jeff Bezos, which had partnered with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Draper. The third company in the tender was Dynetics, a defense company of the Leidos Holdings group.

The mission that will bring US astronauts back to the lunar surface is still in its infancy, but yesterday's agreement brings with it a historic turning point: it is not yet known when but we do know who will be on the spacecraft that will land on the Moon: a female astronaut.

On Twitter, Elon Musk talks about a "New Era" for space missions.
