South Sudan, debut at the UN

From today, South Sudan will become a member of the United Nations Organization. The formal vote of delegates at the general assembly, expected for today, is taken for granted after yesterday the Security Council gave the official go-ahead. The country, which became independent on 11 July after having been recognized as an autonomous region since 2005, will be the 193rd state to be represented in the glass building.
There is some uncertainty about the seat that will be assigned to the Juba diplomats: due to space problems some officials have suggested using the seat reserved for Palestine, which for now only maintains observer status without voting power. As expected, however, there was opposition from the Palestinian delegates, who hope instead to imitate South Sudan and obtain full state recognition for their country.
