Massacre in Orlando: 50 dead in a gay club

"Today marks the worst massacre in the history of America: it was an act of terror and hatred, our hearts are broken". With these words the president of the United States, Barack Obama, commented on the massacre in Orlando, Florida. It is here that on Sunday, at two in the morning, a terrorist entered the Pulse gay club armed with an assault rifle and killed 50 people, wounding 53. A toll that makes today's worst massacre carried out with firearms ( and thus excluding bomb attacks or 11/XNUMX) in US history.

“An attack on any American is an attack on all Americans – added Obama -. We hold the values that make us Americans. We have to show that we are a country that is above all identified by love and not by hate”.

The killer, who was killed by the police, would have been identified: his name is Omar Mateen (in the photo), a thirty-year-old American of Afghan origin. According to the father, the motive for the massacre is hatred against gays. "The religious motive has nothing to do with it, he saw two gays kissing in Miami a couple of months ago and he was very angry," said Mir Seddique. "We are as shocked as the rest of America," he added.

In the evening came the claim of the Islamic State through the Amaq, the press agency of the Caliphate. This was reported by Site, the site for monitoring jihadist activities on the net: the killer of the Orlando massacre "was an ISIS fighter". In the text of the claim reported by the director of the Site Rita Katz in a tweet, we read that a source told the Amaq agency: "The attack that targeted the gay club in Orlando, Florida, and which resulted in 100 dead and wounded, was carried out by a fighter of the Islamic State".

At the time of the raid, the following message was posted on the club's Facebook page: "Get out of the club and start running". Officers detonated a bomb outside the club. An explosive device was found on the body of the killer, who also allegedly had a second possible device in the car. During the assault, photos of ambulances, police and bodies on the ground or on stretchers were taken and shared on social networks by those who managed to escape from the Pulse club.
