Stop annuities for convicts: the center-right is rowing against

Grasso and Boldrini reiterate that a modification of the parliamentary regulations is sufficient, but Forza Italia and Nuovo Centro-destra are not there: "We need a law".

Stop annuities for convicts: the center-right is rowing against

On the stop to annuities for parliamentarians definitively convicted of serious crimes we are "at the final squeeze" and today the question "will be formally submitted, simultaneously, to the competent bodies of the two houses of Parliament". The presidents of the House and Senate make it known in a note, Laura Boldrini e Pietro Grasso.

The second and third state offices have reiterated several times that a new law is not necessary for the abolition of these treatments: a modification of the parliamentary regulations is enough. The Pd, through an intervention by the group leader in the Senate Luigi Zanda, declared his support for the initiative. Some political forces, however, do not agree. Second Forza Italy, a law is needed to block annuities, since a simple resolution would risk rejection by the Constitutional Court.

He also took sides against the possibility of revoking the annuity of convicted parliamentarians Fabrizio Cicchitto, of the New Centre-right: "The revocation of the annuities of parliamentarians condemned through resolutions of the Presidency Offices of the Chambers - he said - is a serious decision and at least of dubious constitutionality". On the same line the forzista Francesco Nitto Palma, according to which any decision must be taken through a law otherwise, as the party underlined in a note, there is a risk of "the rejection of the Consulta".

Meanwhile, a meeting is underway between Grasso and the members of the Chamber and Senate Presidency's office Movement 5 Stars, who ask to strengthen the proposed resolution with some changes. In particular, the grillini ask that those who have been convicted of crimes punishable with a maximum of 4 years in prison (not 6, as currently envisaged) and for abuse of office be included in the causes for the abolition of the annuity, to exclude rehabilitation as a cause to restore the annuity and cancel the reversibility of the annuity in the event of death.

La Lega Northalso presented a bill which not only provides for the abolition of annuities for former parliamentarians definitively convicted of serious crimes, but determines the total abolition of any type of annuity or pension for all parliamentarians, deputies and senators, who have ceased their mandate.
