Stop cash: a "single card" as ATM and document

Electronic payments, identity card, health card and digital identity: all these functions concentrated in one card. After the anti-cash plan in four steps, the Government relaunches with a fifth intervention to fight tax evasion. The news was brought forward to Sun 24 Hours by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy Alessio Villarosa, of the Movimento 5 Stelle.

The "unique letter” could be a real revolution, because it would be able to achieve the whole population, also helping people who are less familiar with digital payments. The management of the various services would in fact be simplified by the possibility of do it all with just one tile, to be used also for medical visits, pharmacy purchases and access to public administration sites.

Of course, there are problems, starting with the technological ones. “We are currently working on the layout – said Villarosa al Sun – because it must guarantee the international standards on which it has been agreed with the other countries but we are sure we will find the right balance”.

Moreover, the package of measures under study to combat the overuse of cash includes the introduction of the obligation to make payments to the PA digitally (already in force at the registry offices of some Municipalities). In this new scenario, the "single card" could be very useful in reducing the foreseeable difficulties that many citizens will encounter.
