Stop to flights from Sharm and state of emergency in the Maldives. Tilt tourism

Stop to flights to Sharm after the disaster of the Russian jet that crashed in the Sinai, perhaps at the hands of a bomb planted by Isis. Goodbye, at least temporarily, also to trips to the Maldives where the Farnesina has declared a state of emergency.

Stop to flights from Sharm and state of emergency in the Maldives. Tilt tourism

Two events that are very distant in substance and geographical position risk throwing winter tourism into a tailspin. The Easy Jet company, in fact, has suspended flights to Sharm following the latest revelations that blame a bomb planted by ISIS for the Russian plane crash. While in the Indian Ocean in the Maldives a state of emergency has been declared due to social tensions within the country. The Farnesina recommends postponing the planned trips to the Maldives to a later date.

According to the US, the Russian plane was dropped in Sinari by a bomb planted by ISIS or an affiliated group. The Kremlin calls for caution on hypotheses, but in the meantime Easy Jet, KLM and Lufthansa have canceled flights to Sharm including the one from Milan. In the coming days, Easy Jet will evaluate whether and when to resume flights to and from the Egyptian tourist resort. In the meantime, he specifies that he is trying to develop an intervention plan to bring 180 passengers stranded in Egypt back to Italy. Up to 20.000 British tourists are also stranded in Sharm.

Together with the holiday in Egypt, the dream of leaving for the Maldives also fades for tourists, at least for the moment. The Farnesina advises Italians leaving for the Maldives, where the president declared a state of emergency for 30 days, to "temporarily postpone trips to the capital Male' and to other islands outside those that host the resorts". The decision to proclaim a state of emergency for 30 days, taken by President Abdulla Yameen for reasons of national security, comes on the eve of a demonstration by the Opposition in favor of former President Mohamed Nasheed, arrested last March after being ousted from power in a suspected coup.
