Stellantis relaunches its industrial strategy in Italy with its new planThis is what emerged from the meeting at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit), where the table dedicated to the car manufacturer has outlined the priorities for the future of the sector. Three prominent ministers participated in the event: Adolfo Urso (Business and Made in Italy), Giancarlo Giorgetti (Economy) and Marina Calderone (Labour), together with trade union representatives, the presidents of the regions involved and the heads of Anfia, the association that represents manufacturers and the automotive supply chain.
The car manufacturer has announced investments of two billion in Italian factories and six billion destined for guaranteed purchases along the Made in Italy supply chain. Among the highlights of the document presented, the following stand out plans for seven new models in Melfi, two compacts in Pomigliano, the new Alfa Romeos and relaunch of the Maserati brand.
Jean Philippe Imparato, responsible for Europe of Stellantis, highlighted theimportance of the plan: “For Stellantis it is time to teaming up with Italy to tackle existential challenges,” he declared, introducing the Italy Plan, which aims to represent a fixed point for the ecological and digital transition and to strengthen the competitiveness of the national automotive sector.
Stellantis will not ask for public subsidies, but will collaborate with the government and local institutions to relaunch the sector and ensure employment and innovation.
Stellantis, the Italy plan: numbers and objectives
The plan includes over 2 billion euros of investments in Italian factories within the 2025 e 6 billion in purchases guaranteed along the Made in Italy supply chain. Stellantis aims to increase the models produced in the Italian factories, with particular attention to electric and hybrid vehicles, ensuring the protection of employment levels and the initiation of updating and requalification processes for employees.
From 2028, furthermore, will come Stella Smart platform introduced, dedicated to the production of large-volume city cars. In Modena, instead, the high-end hub will be consolidated with the Maserati brand.
Stellantis focuses on innovation and sustainability
Stellantis has reaffirmed its commitment to enhance the Italian production ecosystem. Among the announced initiatives, the adhesion to the AI 4 Industry Foundation of Turin and to the Chips.it Foundation of Pavia, aimed at promoting innovation and circularity. In addition, the group will collaborate with the ministry and Anfia to facilitate the conversion of the automotive supply chain towards sustainability.
“Our goal is carry forward the industrial plan without any public incentive to produce,” Imparato said, adding that Stellantis will continue to collaborate with institutions to overcome the challenges of the sector.
Stellantis: All plants will remain operational
Stellantis' Plan sets theItaly at the centre of strategies of the group, with a long-term plan that involves every establishment, each engaged in the production of new models until 2032.
A Pomigliano d'Arco, from 2028, the new Stella Small platform, destined for the production of two compact models. Until 2030, the plant will continue to produce the Panda, with a new generation of the model expected later.
mirafioriinstead, it will become the heart of Stellantis' European operations. From 2025, it will house the headquarters of the Europe Region and the headquarters for commercial vehicles. The Fiat 500 hybrid , new 500 electric, together with eDCT gearboxes. In addition, the Battery Technology Center, the group's only center in the world dedicated to battery testing and development, will be consolidated.
The plant Cassino will see the introduction of the Large platform, with the production of the new Alfa Stelvio in 2025, followed by new Alfa Giulia in 2026, and a new top-of-the-range car. The hybrid and electric versions of Stelvio and Giulia will play a central role in this strategy.
A Melfi, from 2025, will be launched seven new models, including the DS8, Jeep Compass, Lancia Gamma and DS7, all electric. Some models, such as the Compass and Gamma, will also be hybrid, leading to a tripling of production volumes. These vehicles will be built on the Stla-Medium platform.
The plant of Atessa, which exports 80% of its production to 75 countries, will strengthen its role in the production of electric commercial vehicles, with a new version scheduled for 2027. The plant will play an increasingly central role in the company's plans.
Modena will become the high-end hub for Maserati, collaborating with the Motor Valley to develop innovative projects, enhancing Made in Italy. The project will involve the entire supply chain, from design to pre-industrialization, using national components to promote innovation and circularity in high-end cars produced in Italy.
Finally, the Termoli plant will continue to produce mechanical components until 2030 and will host a Gigafactory for batteries, in collaboration with the joint venture Acc. A detailed plan will be communicated in 2025, with Stellantis committed to financially supporting this initiative, studying the construction of the battery factory based on technological evolution and market dynamics.
Urso: “1 billion for the automotive transition in 2025”
The Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, said that the auto sector “is in a phase of profound changes” and that, despite a “difficult budgetary context”, the government has made available “over one billion euros in 2025 to support companies in the transition” through industrial policy tools. During the Stellantis table, Urso has illustrated the resources allocated to incentivize demand, such as the 630 million for the Ecobonus in 2023 and the 982 million for 2024.
For the requalification of the supply chain, the government plans to allocate 1,6 billion between 2025 and 2027, with 200 million for the automotive fund in 2025, to which are added resources from the PNRR and residues from 2024. Furthermore, the minister announced that in 2024 1,1 billion will be available for companies through development contracts and innovation agreements.
