Stellantis-Government open clash. Tavares: “Mirafiori and Pomigliano at risk without incentives”. Urso: “Ready to enter the capital”

The CEO of Stellantis warns the Government about the risks faced by the Mirafiori and Pomigliano plants if public incentives for electric cars do not arrive and Urso provokes by hypothesizing the intervention of the State in the car company that Fio, Schlein and Calenda would like

Stellantis-Government open clash. Tavares: “Mirafiori and Pomigliano at risk without incentives”. Urso: “Ready to enter the capital”

The clash between each other does not go away stellantis, the automotive giant born from the merger between FCA, Peugeot and the French State, and the Italian Government, sparked last week by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who accused the company led by Carlos Tavares of being unbalanced in favor of France and of producing car volumes in Italy below expectations. Yesterday, for the second time, Tavares responded harshly by reminding the Government that the decline in production in Italy is due to the delay in the disbursement of government incentives. “If incentives are not given for the purchase of electric vehicles – declared the CEO of Stellantis – Italian factories will be put at risk” and in particular Mirafiori and Pomigliano.

The reply from the Minister of Business and Made in Italy was provocative, Adolfo Urso: “If they want us to enter the capital of Stellantis to protect Italy, let them say so. We can think about it, we are always available for discussion." In reality it would be madness to invest Italian taxpayers' money to buy into Stellantis' capital: this is not what the car manufacturer needs, let alone Italy. What is needed is an industrial policy that the Italian government does not have.

However, statist suggestions have not left the country indifferent Fiom-Cgil, the secretary of PD, Elly Schlein and the leader of Action, Carlo Calenda, who has returned to acting as spokesperson for the former President of Ferrari, Luca Montezemolo, who has long been at odds with the President of Exor and Stellantis, John Elkann, which ousted him from the planet Agnelli.
