The president of the State Railways, Marcello Messori, the CEO Michele Mario Elia and the entire board of directors of the Fs resigned after a quick meeting held this morning.
The FS summit took note of the substantial sign of distrust recently expressed by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi over the delays in the privatization process.
The disagreements at the top of the FS over the divisions between CEO Elia who stubbornly wanted the privatization of the FS en bloc on the model of the Post Office and President Messori who instead, in full agreement with Minister Delrio, proposed to link privatization and market liberalization railway by unbundling the network in order to keep it public on the Terna and Snam model and then privatizing the rest of the group ended up delaying beyond 2015 the partial withdrawal of the State and induced Renzi to move on.
The Government should shortly appoint the new leaders of the FS who will lead the group towards spin-off and privatisation. Renato Mazzoncini (Busitalia) is in pole position to become the new CEO.
