The managing director of the Ferrovie dello Stato, Michele Mario Elia, will assume all the powers left by the president Marcello Messori, who will only maintain the coordination of internal control activities. The Ministry of the Economy recommended it to the Fs board of directors in the framework of "a more complete unity in the corporate management" of the Railways which thus return to having a single guide.
Elia, in addition to the management powers he already has, will also assume institutional and foreign relations, and the delegation relating to the definition of a privatization strategy, on which he has never made any secret of preferring the choice of privatizing the entire holding and not the its individual companies.
On the privatization of the Fs, the ministry led by Pier Carlo Padoan has also decided to set up a special working group to speed up the operation.
