Standard & Poor's, Greece has a 1 in 3 chance of leaving the eurozone

Greece has at least a one in three chance of leaving the eurozone in the coming months. The forecast is from Standard & Poor's which sees the scenario as a possible consequence of the elections of June 17th. According to the US rating agency, the exit from the euro would be determined by a Greek 'no' to the reforms requested by the troika - made up of the EU Commission, the ECB and the International Monetary Fund - and by the consequent suspension of external financial support by the Europe.

Such a situation – continues the agency – would seriously damage the Greek economy and its fiscal position in the medium term leading to a probable further rating cut. According to Standard & Poor's, however, the impact on the other peripheral European countries is not clear, which would be unlikely to follow the Greek path in any case, seeing the consequences of this choice for Athens.
