Stadio Milano: yes from Sala to Inter and Milan, but with reservations

The new stadium wanted by the two clubs obtained the go-ahead from the Giunta, but on condition that they do not build beyond the volumes envisaged by the PGT and do not demolish the current Meazza.

Stadio Milano: yes from Sala to Inter and Milan, but with reservations

It's a yes, but on two conditions: that there is no real estate development beyond what is foreseen in the Territorial Government Plan and that the "old" Giuseppe Meazza is not demolished. The City Council of Milan thus gave the green light to the project for a new football stadium in the San Siro district, based on the proposals of Milan and Inter, but as long as the area is not disrupted: "Any other works - specified the mayor Giuseppe Sala - such as commercial spaces, offices, hotels, will have authorization only to the extent envisaged by the current Territorial Government Plan of the Municipality". And above all, the current "home" stadium of Inter and Milan, which Milan would also like to use for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, must not be touched.

“The construction of a new sports facility – continued Sala – opened the question about the future of San Siro. We reiterate our desire to re-functionalize it and therefore we are ready to evaluate solutions that do not involve giving up the current system, but rather its regeneration through other functions - added Sala - We have always moved with transparency and consistency on the stadium question. We immediately said that we would have involved the City Council first and, only after having had the opinion of those who represent the citizens, would we have assumed, as mayor and council, the responsibility of deciding how to proceed ".
