Spread, Padoan: "Reducing debt"

The number one of the Treasury reiterates that "the reduction of the public debt is a central objective of the government's strategy" - "Last year's deflation hurt us".

"The events of these days and hours remind us, in a somewhat rude way, how a country with a high public debt cannot fail to deal with its descent". This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Pier Carlo Padoan, in reference to the tensions on the spread between Btp-Bund, which yesterday returned to exceed the psychological threshold of 2014 basis points for the first time since 200, while this morning it just below, at an altitude of 197.

During a conference at the Agenzia del Demanio, Padoan noted that "the reduction of the public debt is a central objective of the government's strategy".

The price trend recorded last year certainly didn't help: "Italy experienced deflation in 2016 and deflation is bad for debt, because it makes it increase", concluded Padoan.
