Movements between Regions: ban extended to 25 February

As the last act of its mandate, the outgoing government extended the travel ban between regions by ten days - Tuscany, Trento, Abruzzo and Liguria become orange zones, Sicily returns to the yellow band

Movements between Regions: ban extended to 25 February

The Council of Ministers, the last one led by the outgoing Premier, Giuseppe Conte, has the ban on travel between Regions has been extended – also yellow – until next February 25th.

The news had been in the air for days, but until today no one knew who would have approved it, given the handover underway at Palazzo Chigi. Waiting for the Draghi government to take office would have meant racing against time, given that the ban currently in force expires on Monday 15 February. According to rumors, it would therefore have been Mario Draghi himself who asked the outgoing president, in charge of current affairs, to approve the extension. The CDM has therefore decided to satisfy the request, extending it stop moving for another 10 days. It will be up to the new Executive and the new Minister of Health (Roberto Speranza is in any case in the running for reconfirmation), in concert with the Istituto Superiore della Sanità and the Technical-Scientific Committee to decide what to do in the following weeks.

The extension was also endorsed by the Regions who at the end of yesterday's Conference had asked the Government to block mobility between the territories to avoid a new surge in infections, also favored by the growing diffusion of the variants of Covid-19 in Italy. We remind you that the ban does not apply to travel due to work, health and emergency reasons. In these cases, self-certification is needed to move.

Meanwhile, new decisions have arrived on the colors of the regions. With the national average Rt rising again, reaching 0,95 (it was 0,84 seven days ago), the experts have decided to increase the restrictions on four territories.

Tuscany, Province of Trento, Abruzzo (Pescara and Chieti in the red zone) e Liguria they become the orange zone, joining Umbria (Perugia and six other municipalities in the red zone) and Bolzano. Reverse path for Sicily, which will return to the yellow zone starting Sunday 14 February.
