Many municipalities have made sustainability their big opportunity.

Spighe Verdi 2019: Marche, Tuscany and Piedmont in the lead

Forty-two rural localities will be able to boast the Spighe Verdi 2019 recognition, FEE program, designed to guide rural municipalities, step by step, in choosing land management strategies in a virtuous path that benefits the environment and the quality of life of the entire community .
To bring rural municipalities to the gradual adoption of the "Green Spikes" scheme, FEE Italia has shared a set of indicators with Confagricoltura capable of capturing land management policies and directing them towards criteria of maximum attention to sustainability. Some indicators taken into consideration were: public participation; education for sustainable development; the correct use of the land; the presence of typical agricultural products, sustainability and innovation in agriculture; the quality of the tourist offer; the existence and degree of functionality of the purification plants; waste management with particular regard to differentiated waste collection; the valorisation of any naturalistic areas present in the territory and of the landscape; the care of street furniture; accessibility for all without limitations. These are just some of the indicators that guide the program and that will be susceptible to changes, with a view to continuous improvement and maximum involvement of the Italian Municipalities.
"More and more Municipalities have made sustainability their great opportunity and agriculture the sector from which to start the cultural revolution - underlined Massimiliano Giansanti, president of Confagricoltura, highlighting how Spighe Verdi can represent a turning point, even in terms of marketing and communication, for the hitherto little-known realities -. An important card to play on the territorial competitiveness table, just as the Blue Flag Municipalities have done in over thirty years of existence”.

The 2019 "Green Spikes" were awarded in 13 Regions, one more than in the previous edition. The three Regions with the highest number of awards are Marche, Tuscany and Piedmont, all with 6 locations.
