"Crazy spending" in Emilia: all parties investigated

Not only Pd, but also former People of Freedom, Movimento 5 stelle, Lega Nord, Udc, Mixed Group, Fds and Sel-Verdi. The suspects for embezzlement who were part of the regional council that has just been dissolved in Emilia Romagna come from all political positions. Among them are also all the group leaders in office in the period 2010-2012, who were responsible for signing the reimbursement requests.

They are Luigi Giuseppe Villani (Pdl), Marco Monari (Pd), Mauro Manfredini (Lega), Liana Barbati (Idv), Andrea Defranceschi (M5S), Silvia Noé (Udc), Matteo Riva (Mixed Group), Roberto Sconciaforni ( Fds) and Gianguido Naldi (Sel-Verdi).

On Tuesday, the Democratic Party was overwhelmed by the news that its two candidates in the primaries for the presidency of the Region, Matteo Richetti and Stefano Bonaccini, are involved in the investigation together with six other party colleagues.

Yesterday the magistrates responsible for the investigation replied to those who spoke of clockwork justice, given the proximity of the regional elections and the Pd primaries: "The public prosecutor's office also worked in August" reads the press release, specifying that Bonaccini and Richetti were enrolled in the register when their candidacy in the primaries had not yet been decided.

Bonaccini explained that expenses for "just under 4 thousand euros in a period of 19 months" (between 2010 and 2011) are contested and that they concern "expenses for lunches and dinners and mileage reimbursements for my activity as a councilor who traveled for five years in the territories and maintained relations with the administrators”. The lawyer Vittorio Manes specified that "it is about 200 euros per month: we will file a request for dismissal".

On the other hand, the expenses deemed illegal and contested by the Bologna prosecutors to Matteo Richetti, the Pd deputy who yesterday announced his withdrawal from the race for the primaries, amount to 5.500 euros.
