Sparkle, a TIM Group company for which it manages the Tier-type network, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with LPT extension (Libya Postal Telecommunication and Technology Holding Company), a Libyan state telecommunications company active in fixed, mobile and data services, for the infrastructure construction that connects various cities of Libya to Sicily through the new BlueMed submarine cable by Sparkle. This work will connect Libya not only to Italy but also to Europe, opening up new connectivity and development opportunities for the country.

The agreement, signed during the visit to Rome of the Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GUN), Abulhamid Dabaiba, was signed by Mohamed IB. Mohamed Ben Ayad, president of LPTIC, ed Enrico Maria Bagnasco, Chief Executive Officer of Sparkle.

Possible future deals

The agreement also provides for the possibility for Sparkle to offer additional services to LPTIC as well as i rights to BlueMed which will be further examined and detailed by the parties in view of the definitive agreement.

The BlueMed submarine cable will play a key role in the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the Mediterranean region. By connecting Libya to Sicily and the whole of Europe, it will allow for a faster, more reliable and secure flow of data. This will have a positive impact on several sectors, including telecommunications, the digital economy, international trade and tourism.
