Spalletti leaves: Rome stronger, I don't deserve booing

Two days after Francesco Totti's farewell to Roma, the Tuscan coach moves to Inter and leaves Roma with second place in his pocket and therefore direct qualification for the Champions League. The number one candidate for the future is Eusebio di Francesco, fresh from his positive experience at Sassuolo.

Spalletti leaves: Rome stronger, I don't deserve booing

To sanction the end of relationship between Luciano Spalletti and AS Roma is the Giallorossi club which, through an official statement signed by James Pallotta, thanks the Tuscan coach for the results obtained and for the contribution given to the club since his return.

Occasional, formal, expected phrases. Everyone has known for weeks now that Spalletti he would change his mind. The Tuscan coach was good at preparing his exit in minute detail, specifying several times that his stay would be linked to winning a trophy. Which is impossible, however, given the presence of the Juventus steamroller.

Spalletti pays a sometimes too arrogant attitude with the Press – which in Rome, in the football field, has a significant specific weight – and the management of "Totti case". It would have been difficult for any coach to deal with the situation. Totti in Rome is more than just a player, he is almost a god. Spalletti has not given in to the criticisms and requests from the whole environment, he has always put the team before the individual, going against everything and everyone.

The coach, who decided to say goodbye with a press conference in Trigoria, didn't spare himself some criticisms: “I'm leaving a strong Rome, a team that has important individuals. It behaved almost totally as a collective. It could have been done better as a collective and as everyone's goal, I probably didn't succeed there. I don't think we all rowed on the same side"

All that's missing is the official status, but Spalletti will be the new coach of theInter. In Milan he will find his friend DS Walter Sabatini and a new company ready to invest heavily to bring the club back to the top in Italy and Europe.

In football, results count: in addition to second place – which ensures direct access to the Champions League and high economic revenues – Roma failed this year: defeat in August against Porto, eliminated from the Italian Cup by Lazio and out of the Europa League for hand of Lyon.

As he said Daniele de Rossi at the end of the last league game, it won't be easy to find another coach capable of finishing a season with 87 points, of making the team play well and always on attack and of enhancing almost all the elements of the squad (Palmieri above all) .

Apparently, however, the new director Monchi has already identified his successor: Eusebius of Francis, currently coach of Sassuolo, champion of Italy in 2001 with Capello's Roma as well as team manager of the club during Spalletti's first year in the capital. Sliding doors, football is made up of crossed destinies.
