Spain, glimmers for Rajoy or third elections

Agreement between Rayoy's Populars and Ciudadanos' centrists but to form a government there are still 6 votes in Parliament or 11 abstentions, yes in the second vote – Rajoy challenges the socialists: if he doesn't succeed, he will go back to voting at Christmas for the third time after 8 months of complete political paralysis

Something is moving in the Spanish political swamp but it is too early to tell if it will be enough or if, after 8 months without a government, we will return to Christmas voting for the third time.

The novelty of the last few hours is the government agreement between Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's Popular Party and the centrists of Ciudadanos. However, the two groups do not have a majority in Parliament: there are still 6 votes left, unless, in the second vote on confidence, there are at least 11 abstentions, which Rajoy hopes to find in the socialists.

The outgoing prime minister intends to flush out the socialists, who have no intention of forming a government with Rajoy, who are accused of scandals and corruption to no end. By allying itself with the Popolari, Pedro Sanchez's PSOE fears discovering itself on the left and losing votes to Podemos, the far-left formation.

But the socialist leader also has to contend with the internal front that is inspired by Felipe Gonzales and knows that if his no were to pave the way for the third general election in a year, the voters might not like his intransigence, albeit understandable.

The games will take place between the end of August and the beginning of September, when Spain will know if it will finally have a government or if it will have to prepare for yet another electoral campaign
