Spain: IV quarter GDP growing. Germany: stable unemployment in January

According to the National Institute of Statistics, Spanish GDP recorded a growth of 0,3% in the fourth quarter of 2013, after the 0,1% increase recorded in the previous quarter – In the calendar year, GDP fell by '1,2% – In Germany the unemployment rate is stable, but the number of unemployed is falling beyond forecasts.

Signs of recovery for the Spanish economy. In a note released today, the National Institute of Statistics communicated that the GDP of Spain it grew by 0,3% in the fourth quarter of 2013, after the 0,1% increase recorded in the previous quarter.

Two consecutive quarterly surveys in positive territory officially mark the exit from the state of recession. Looking at the entire calendar year, however, Spanish GDP recorded a contraction of 1,2% on an annual basis, following the 1,6% drop recorded at the end of 2012.

In Germany, however, the unemployment rate in January stood at 6,8%, the same figure in December. This was announced by the Federal Labor Office. Despite the zero change from a percentage point of view, the figure positively surprised analysts, who had forecast a drop in the number of unemployed by 5 units, against the 28 that occurred.
