Spain: new measures to be approved urgently

The Minister of Public Works and Spanish Government spokesman, Jose Blanco, announced that the Government will ask Parliament to meet in an extraordinary session as soon as possible - "better if within the next week" - to approve the decree "urgently". of economic measures that the Council of Ministers should approve next Friday.

It will be the prime minister, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who will analyze the economic situation during Friday's session and present the measures to the parliamentary groups.

Minister Blanco recalled that the decree provides for an increase in corporate tax and measures to reduce pharmaceutical spending through the purchase of generic medicines, which will make it possible to obtain savings of 4,9 billion euros and help to obtain the goal of deficit consolidation.

Blanco stressed that these measures are "necessary and important" for the fiscal consolidation plan and that for this reason he is confident that Congress will give the green light as soon as possible.
