The Spanish economy is giving some timid signs of optimism, but the uncertainties of the Italian situation, after the announcement of the resignation of Mario Monti, risk unleashing a contagion effect on the country. This was stated by the Spanish Economy Minister Luis de Guindos, who also kept the doors open to the possibility of a request for aid from the Government to the European Central Bank stating that "it is an instrument that the Spanish Government is taking into consideration and we will make the best decision for Spain.”
De Guindos then announced Spain's GDP estimates for the current year: the contraction, expected to be between 1,3% and 1.4%, should therefore be lower than the initial estimates, which stood at around -1,5%. In any case, according to the minister, the fourth quarter promises to be the most difficult of the year.
