Spain, Consulta suspends the Catalan referendum. But Rajoy is open to constitutional reform

The referendum for the independence of Catalonia, announced by the region led by Artur Mas for November 9, has been suspended: the decision was made by the Spanish Constitutional Court, accepting the appeal presented by Madrid. A step, that of the Rajoy government, announced for weeks and which formalizes the clash on an institutional level with an unprecedented crisis between the Spanish capital and Barcelona.

In fact, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy accused Mas of having imposed "a policy of unilateral decisions and accomplished facts". However, he has left the door open to constitutional reform and, despite the distance in positions between Madrid and Catalonia, he has offered Mas “a dialogue within the law. We still have time to straighten the course ”, he insisted.
